Dark Chocolate and Almond Tarts

This super simple recipe is an ode to my dark chocolate loving mother. I don’t remember her ever particularly liking to cook. Of course she had 10 kids to feed, so that MAY have played a small part in her dislike of preparing food.

I thought of her with this simple recipe, because I think this is something she would really like. Her favorite sweet is anything with dark chocolate and almonds. Plus this is simple to prepare, I think she would really like that!

Start with prepackaged puff pastry dough.

Cut into squares, rectangles, circles or even triangles.

Place on a parchment lined baking sheet a few inches apart.

Bake at 400 degrees on convection.

These are the only other 2 ingredients in recipe. I chopped my almonds, but you could have left them whole.

Bake for 5-7 minutes until puffy, as shown below.

Remove from oven and press down center. You don’t have to do this, but I think it is easier to fill if you have a hole to place chocolate and almonds in.

I started with chocolate. Here you could have made ganache, but I was keeping it simple.So fill wells with chocolate chips.

Next add almonds. I also made some in a rocky road style, my youngest loves marshmallows. Bake until chocolate is softened. Mine took about 5 minutes.

Look at these beautiful flaky layers. All the heart eyes.

Isn’t puff pastry the best? So simple to use and delicious. It’s one of the only things I almost always buy instead of make.
